This gorgeous jay is found only in North-Western Ecuador and Colombia. In Colombia it is present only at the Pacific slope of the Western Andes between 1000 to 1800 meters where it is difficult to see.

This image was taken at Cerro Montezuma near the town of Pueblo Rico (Risaralda). The bird can also be seen at Las Tangaras Reserve (ProAves) in Carmen de Atrato (road to Quibdó).
