An uncommon bird of dense montane forest between 1800-3500m in all three Andean ranges and the Santa Marta Mountains.
Present at Río Blanco (Central Andes), forests above Jardin and at “La M” in the Western Andes, and El Dorado nature reserve in Santa Marta.
