Found between 1300-2200m on both slopes of the Western Andes. It occurs higher than the Choco Tapaculo, lower than Spillmann´s Tapaculo and sympatric with Alto Pisones Tapaculo.
Can be seen at Kilometro 18 above Cali, Paso Galápagos, Cerro Montezuma and Las Tangaras reserve.
