[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]This tour is one of our most popular Colombia birding holidays for targeting a high concentration of endemics. Embark on an intensive 8-day / 7-night journey to see the endemic, near-endemic, and specialty birds of the legendary Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, its surrounding Caribbean foothills, and the remote, semi-arid La Guajira peninsula.
The world-renowned Santa Marta Mountains represent an isolated “evolutionary island,” hosting an unrivaled concentration of endemic species found nowhere else on Earth. Furthermore, this unique area is home to a multitude of highly sought-after near-endemics and distinct geographical subspecies, crucial for any comprehensive Neotropical list.
Strategically covering the high forests and lower foothills ensures maximum altitudinal coverage and exposure to the region’s full avian spectrum. Beyond the mountain range, this itinerary meticulously explores the scrubland and xerophytic habitats of La Guajira for a key suite of arid-zone near-endemics—species shared with Venezuela but extremely challenging to observe elsewhere.
Our team consists of expert birding guides in Colombia whose daily routine involves navigating these unique forests and wetlands. This intimate, year-round knowledge of bird movements and micro-habitats guarantees optimal positioning and significantly maximizes your sighting success.[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”Book now” style=”custom” custom_background=”#53803b” custom_text=”#ffffff” size=”lg” el_class=”botonbook” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fbirdingtourscolombia.com%2Fcontact%2F|||”][vc_column_text]

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Cerro Montezuma in the Tatamá National Park is arguably the best place on earth to bird Mountain Choco, a complex and highly biodiverse region shared only by Colombia, Ecuador & Panama.
This 13-day Colombia birding itinerary has been conceived for the more adventurous birder and for those wanting to taste the unique endemics, near-endemics & specialties of the Choco Bioregion. For the most part, this 13-day trip is identical to our 10-day “Colombia: Golden birds of the Central Andes” departure, but it deviates from it by adding a three-night stay at Montezuma Rainforest Lodge.
Besides visiting Cerro Montezuma, you will come upon the most magnificent landscapes of the Western & Central Andes of Colombia, visiting iconic Km18 above Cali, Doña Dora´s site, the dry enclave of Atuncela, scrublands at Sonso marsh, Otún-Quimbaya Sanctuary, Cameguadua marsh, Tinamu Reserve, Rio Blanco, Hacienda El Bosque and Los Nevados National Park, where our group will enjoy safe and comfortable lodging and birding in well protected watersheds that are home to some of Colombia´s nicest, rarest and most threatened species.
Tour itinerary has been carefully planned in order to cover the greatest number and variety of nature ecosystems, in a big altitudinal gradient from 4,200 to 13,100 ft (1,300 – 4,000 m).
The tour provides a list of 675 plausible species! This includes 88 species of tanagers & allies, 76 species of flycatchers, 54 species of hummingbirds, 42 species of furnarids, 16 species of antpittas and 11 species of cotingas![/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”Book now” style=”custom” custom_background=”#53803b” custom_text=”#ffffff” size=”lg” el_class=”botonbook” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fbirdingtourscolombia.com%2Fcontact%2F|||”][vc_column_text]
